I have to confess and say how excellent graphic novels/comic books are Until a couple of years ago Iapos;d never really read one beyond things like Fungus The Bogeyman (which is still one of my all time faves of course) and the odd bit of Judge Dredd and Dan Dare. I was frankly a bit snooty about them. Because they confused me

Back when I was lucky enough to be working with a team full of uber-geeks (the highpoint of my time as a civil servant, the daily conversation was just awesome, and the apos;CD lendsapos; superb) I was known as Geek Savant because of my one-track nerdiness about Tolkien. Everyone else had a broad, Catholic geekiness encompassing Star Wars, Star Trek, comics, TV sci-fi etc...whereas you were even hard pushed to get me to pick up any sci-fi or fantasy which did not involve Tolkien, and I didnapos;t even see the later three Star Wars films until Dave moved in*

Theyapos;d laugh at me now, because Iapos;m turning into a comics fan-girl. Hell, I was even looking at a cool Batman one today and adding it to my Amazon wish list

But...they are fabulous. Why has it taken me so long?

*Note - I was never actually that single-minded, but bear in mind Doctor Who hadnapos;t been revived around then, HDM was not that well known, and Iapos;m still to meet anyone else who can apos;geek outapos; about things like Ballard and Peake.
